Have You Tried Black And White Photography?

Black and White PhotographyHow many pictures have you taken lately? If it hasn’t been a lot maybe it’s time to get started again. Maybe you need a reason to start taking photographs again. For me it was when my first child was born. At that point it became important for me to preserve every memory. The ones I like the best are the black and white pictures. They seem to show a deeper emotion for me. I also like the retro look and feel they offer over a color picture. So we always take plenty of black and white photos of our children and family.

How thick is your photo album? Are you keeping it current as the years go by? Remember, you won’t ever get those memories back. It’s probably time to start preserving those special times. When I flip open an old photo album and glance through the variety of black and white photos from my parents’ childhood, I am simply amazed. For some reason it’s hard to remember our parents were children once too. We only know them as the adults they have become. I want my children to be able to do the same thing with me one day.

So far my wife and I have accumulated around a dozen photo albums. We have two or three of them made up of black and white photos. Some people actually prefer black and white photos since they tend to hide imperfections a little better. Now day’s digital cameras are so widespread and simple to use. Plus it’s very easy to switch from color to black and white photography with them. I really like that feature. And we can take and store so many photos on them and downloaded to our laptop when we need to. This is much less expensive, especially if you don’t print them out.

The world we live in nowadays seems to be so color oriented that it’s hard to find quality black and white pictures anymore. If you haven’t explored this side of photography I think you should give it a try. Take a few pictures of your family and friends or maybe even some scenery. See how you connect with them. See if they evoke any new and different emotions. You can also search the Internet and find some high quality black and white photography to get some ideas. I think you’ll find after giving it a good go you’ll be hooked on black and white photography forever.
